The Future of Work is Funny
What happens when you combine human creativity with AI firepower?
The following ad just aired during the NBA Finals on national TV. It was created by a single person, in two days, using Google's Gemini to generate parts of the script and Veo3 to generate all the videos and sounds.
The ad promotes Kalshi, a "prediction market" that enables people to bet on the outcomes of various events, including basketball games, election results, egg prices, and box office sales of new films.
Kalshi's slogan is: "The world's gone crazy, trade it." They tasked the video creator PJ Accetturo to create "the most unhinged NBA Finals commercial possible." You can see the final ad below. It is indeed unhinged — and compelling.
Accetturo posted the ad's detailed production process on Twitter, specifying the tools and prompts he used. The entire thread is worth reading. His main takeaway?
"Right now the most valuable skill in entertainment and advertising is comedy writing. If you can make people laugh, they’ll watch the full ad, engage with it, and some of them will become customers."
People talk about coding, math, and even plumbing. One skill that matters in the future? A good sense of humor.
Have an excellent day.
Best,
